By now, most of you have likely heard about the impending permanent closure of the Minden ER scheduled for June 1st. The Haliburton Hospital will remain open and be our closest ER.
There has been a huge public outcry and a rally of area residents who have coordinated the signing of petitions and letters to officials, protesting this closure. A peaceful demonstration was held on May 10th at Queens Park where they were to present the petitions signed by over 17,000 people. (see photo taken below)
There are a number of locations in Minden, Norland and Coboconk where petitions can still be signed in person. Only one signature per person.
To report properly on this, we refer you to some local paper articles for more details surrounding the reasons for the closure and what is being done to try to stop it. We hope that the efforts being made will have some effect in at least delaying the decision.
